We celebrated William's 1st Birthday on Saturday, February 28. We had lunch and cake at the Dublin Rec Center and were very excited to see so many friends and family! Will was a trooper the entire time. We took him to the Rec Center early so he could get acquainted with the room and I think that really paid off; he is somewhat shy usually, but did very well "greeting" his guests.
I was somewhat nervous about Will "smashing" his cake, but he was pretty apprehensive about touching the icing, so I cut him a couple of wedges of cake and he enjoyed them (with minimal mess, luckily)!!
When it came time to open gifts, he was not very interested (not a surprise to me). Luckily Michael's godson, Vincey, was there and helped open the presents. I am not sure that I would have been able to open all of the gifts in time if Vincey wasn't there to help. I think the opening presents was a bit overwhelming for Will. Once we opened a gift we tried to "move it along" so we could open another...for the most part Will was fine with that, until we moved the riding Disney Fire Truck away from him...he followed it wherever it went, just to make sure it wasn't "leaving"(he loves that toy...first toy he played with when he woke up the following morning)! He received MANY MANY amazing and wonderful gifts and we Thank everyone for them (Thank You cards will be mailed out soon)!!!
It was a wonderful 1st Birthday celebration! I cannot believe that a year has already passed...it seems like William was TINY just a day or so ago - he is now almost 24 pounds and 32" long (not so tiny for a 1 year old). I think this past year has been spectacular...being a Mom is so amazing - I don't think you can really understand the "amazingness" (not a real word, but works well with my statement) of it until you are one - WOW!!!
